Sam Buckton
Intern
Sam Buckton is a ‘pracademic’ – an experienced facilitator, researcher, teacher, and evaluator – dedicated to helping organisations and initiatives develop strategies for transformational change in our current crisis-hit world. He has extensive experience of facilitating transformation-focused workshops, particularly using the Three Horizons framework. Sam also has internationally recognised expertise in developing approaches to evaluation that drive transformational change, as well as concepts around regeneration, regenerative practice and regenerative systems, co-creating the Regenerative Lens framework for futures practice in 2023. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 20 reports, and has advised and contributed to numerous high-profile research projects both nationally and internationally. As an experienced ecologist and naturalist, Sam has additionally led many workshops to help people understand the natural world, worked with various nature conservation NGOs, and advised on organisations’ biodiversity action plans. This experience means that Sam is agile, adaptive, and adept at working with complexity, and can rapidly draw out patterns and themes to enhance clients’ agency and understanding when exploring transformation. He also brings an evaluative and reflexive way of thinking that drives for ambitious, transformational change and regenerative dynamics. Sam is currently completing his PhD research at the University of York, exploring how evaluation can support transformations towards regenerative futures. As part of this, Sam is working with North Yorkshire Council to support the evaluation and governance of its new transformation-focused food strategy.
